Blackbird by the Beatles is a song that has a beautiful melody, and beautiful meaning. Paul McCartney wrote it in the spring of 1968 in response to the racial tensions in the U.S. I thought this was a timely image and message as this week was the 50th anniversary of the march on Washington D.C. and Martin Luther King's speech. The blackbird in the song was meant to symbolize black women and the suppression they faced. The bird taking flight is such an image of freedom.
